Power of Perspective
When I was younger I'd always try to find objects in the clouds. I’d lay in the grass and dream up stories about the characters I saw in the clouds. I loved watching them roll by.
When I was younger I'd also go pick dandelions, thinking they were the most beautiful flower. I used to rub the vibrant color on my hands and cheeks. I loved and admired the beauty of what I believed to be those beautiful flowers.
But as I got older, clouds became things that blocked the sun, and dandelions became weeds.
It’s easy as we get older to miss out on the beauties that are set right before us. I mean, we have meetings to attend to and errands to run and feeds to keep up with, right?
We are bombarded with so many distractions that sometimes we forget to fully LIVE where we’re at. We label minor inconveniences as problems, although they are really unrecognized opportunities.
We allow beauty to be just a surface level thing. It no longer runs as deep as it did when we were young.
Our attitudes change. We overcomplicate things.
Lately, I feel like I’ve had these moments of peace. And you know why? It’s a change in attitude. It’s letting go of perfection. It’s the power of perspective. It’s believing that He can turn my unfortunate situation or perceived limitation into a blessing.
A few years from now you might be looking back and wishing you would’ve enjoyed the moment that’s already past.
Be happy and be light. Be still and have faith. Trust and love.
God is working and fighting for you every minute of every day.
Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Sometimes we just have to quit thinking about what needs to get done and instead enjoy God’s beauty.
Whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask God to give you His peace, step away from the situation, and take some time to admire God’s handiwork.
Isaiah 55:12 “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”
Job 12:7-10 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind."
Be happy with who you are. Be happy with your circumstance. I promise you that some things you’re wishing away are what others are praying so fervently for.
Don’t allow yourself to grow weary of accepting yourself. God has given you what you need. He has set you in the place where you belong. He has given you everything you are meant to have to make you the one and only you.
Don’t become weary of who you are and what you have. Open your eyes. Look up. Enjoy what you have around you, and never lose sight of who you are in Christ.
Isaiah 40:26 “Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, the One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of his power, not one of them is missing.”
Such a simple thing. Smiles are contagious, so shine those pearly whites. Smile at strangers, smile at your friends, smile at your dog. It could make someone’s day.
Proverbs 15:30 “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health.”
Look for some objects in the clouds and check your perspective today. Don't get so caught up in your perceived problems that you forget to fully LIVE and see how beautiful this life really is.
