You'll Get There When You Get There

You'll Get There When You Get There

The other day I woke up and looked at the clock… 7:46 a.m.

What time was I supposed to be to work, you ask? 7:45 a.m.

I was sort of frustrated with myself as I quickly got ready. I wanted to just snap my fingers and be at work. I huffed and puffed and kind of felt defeated, as I knew there was no denying I’d be totally, without-a-doubt late.

I quickly notified my boss of what had at happened while throwing some clothes on. As I was hurriedly getting ready, I also texted Tyler (my man) to let him know what had happened too. I had some uneasiness in my stomach knowing I wasn’t where I was supposed to be, but then I got a text back from Tyler.

You’ll get there when you get there. I love you.

Suddenly I felt peace and comfort knowing that he was so right: I’ll get there when I get there. Was I going to be late? Absolutely. Was I a little irritated that I wasn’t where I was supposed to be? Absolutely. But you know what? I couldn’t change it. I couldn’t change the fact of my current standing. I could only accept it and move forward.

Don’t we all get this way in life? Frustrated with where we are? Wanting to be somewhere else? Having ideas and plans of where we should be? Isn’t it sometimes so hard to have a plan or a dream and not yet fulfill it?

Well I sure as heck get this way.

I have all these dreams and goals and plans and ideas floating around in my head. Sometimes I want to just snap my fingers and fulfill them all. I become impatient and flustered when they don’t start unfolding when and how I’d like them to. I grow weary thinking about how long it will take to get to where I want to be… but then God whispers something in my ear:

You’ll get there when you get there. I love you.

We have to be able to take a step back in life and realize that we can’t control everything. Is it good to have plans and dreams and goals? Absolutely. But it’s even more important to give those plans and dreams and goals to God.

He will show you where you are meant to be with them. He will lay out these plans right before your feet. All you have to do is trust that through the roadblocks and trials and missed alarms that you will get there. You just have to surrender and allow God to pave the way and show you the end destination. We have to trust that God’s timeline is better.

I know that missing an alarm and being late to work isn’t ideal. That timeline is kind of annoying. I get that. But the rest of the day would go a lot better if we would just realize that one way or another, we will get there. If we would just take a minute to stop and pray and ask God to pave the way for the rest of the day, things suddenly get better.

So take a deep breath. Relax. You’ll get there.

Take God by the hand and let Him show you the way. Let go of the bitterness and frustration of where you are and start clinging to the peace and guidance that He offers for where you will be.

Because, my friend, you’ll get there when you get there.
