About us.

We’re the Metcalfs.

Our story begins back in 2016 when I (Madison) decided on a whim to try out for the dance team at Wartburg College. I made it and then found out it was a co-ed dance I needed to find a guy partner for… I was wondering what weirdo would want to dance in front of a crowd of people with me *cue Tyler*, and luckily for me, it was a football-playing hottie named Tyler Metcalf.

Our dance practices became our dates, and we quickly got serious and actually met each other’s parents at our dance team performance at the half-time of a basketball game. Please enjoy this embarrassing picture of us two youngsters at that performance.

Our Faith.

It took a few months of dating to realize our priorities were out of alignment of God’s will for our lives. Luckily we got connected to a church and gradually started making changes that more so reflected the lives we knew we were called to live.

During that time (my sophomore & junior year), I wrote a book and decided to donate half the proceeds to the local children’s hospital. I worked on designing the book/coming up with a marketing plan through the winter of my junior year and then launched the book at the end of March in 2018. I ended up raising over $8,000 for the children’s hospital.

While I was working on designing and launching the book, I really missed writing and sharing my thoughts, so I decided to start a blog. I had decided to name my book “Bound Blessings,” a name that came to me while I was about to take a nap in my college dorm room (fancy, I know). The name meant that blessings were bound in my writing as blessings were bound to happen to my readers and those kiddos at the hospital. I stuck with the name for my blog as well, and in January of 2018, I launched my first blog post on a website I created.

I was just posting these blogs on my personal Facebook page, but the second blog post I wrote got shared so many times that I was getting a countless number of Facebook friend requests. In fact, my friend request box was full, so Facebook was notifying people that they could not even request to be my friend. As a result, I started a Facebook page called “Bound Blessings” and started sharing all my blogs and writings there.

Our Marriage.

I had so many dreams for what Bound Blessings would be, as it quickly picked up steam. However, my senior year filled up fast as we got engaged and started planning for a wedding, I started looking for a job after graduation, and we looked to buy a house. That season is no joke! And it’s filled with so much emotion and anticipation.

We got married August 17 in 2019 and started our life together as husband and wife. Our new tag line became #thisismarriage, and we had a blast settling into our new home as newly weds.

Throughout our first year of marriage, I changed jobs 3 times (shoutout Tyler for being the GOAT during that season), and we ended up moving to Waverly, IA, as I landed a job I always dreamed of having (being a youth pastor), and Tyler also received a job promotion that landed him in Waverly as well.

Our Family.

While serving in full-time ministry, my eyes were opened to all the brokenness going on inside the homes of the students we served. I was able to see first-hand how kids were impacted by hurting marriages, and I longed to see the family unit restored. Tyler and I both realized more than ever the weight of marriage and how that is the greatest reflection of Christ that we have to model for others.

During that first year of ministry in 2021 we became pregnant with our first, Hazel Mae, and once she was born we were again reminded of the importance and weight of our marriage and how that plays into the health of the home and our sweet girl. We watched Hazel copy and replicate all that we did and who we are, and we longed to live according to God’s design.

Then in the fall of 2023 we became pregnant with our second who will join us in May 2024! Being parents has been such a gift, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to reflect Christ in our marriage and home.

Our Mission.

We believe that the greatest ministry anyone will ever have is their family. What we have been able to do in full-time ministry has been wonderful, but nothing compares to the impact that is made inside the walls of a home. Tyler and I long to come alongside couples as they navigate marriage and parenting, which is why we have changed our name from Bound Blessings to Metcalf Ministries. I come alive when I can sit down with couples and parents and help them navigate all aspects of their relationship, including their faith, finances, family, and just fun in general.

Through our blogs, podcasts, and online shop with Metcalf Ministries, we hope to mentor you in all things marriage and motherhood. We are dedicated to it, because we believe strong, healthy marriages are key to raising up a generation of strong followers of Christ who live by God’s design and reflect who He is and who He calls us to be.
