2 Questions That Changed My Husband's Life

Tyler got the opportunity to speak these words at church this past Sunday. May they bless you and keep you thinking about the small, simple things that make a big difference:

1 Corinthians 16:13 says this: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.”

This verse was a part of the message that was given at youth group about a month ago. The first thing that this verse made me think of was a moment with my then girlfriend, now wife, Madison.

After a couple months of dating, she asked me a simple question:

“Will you pray with me?”

I don’t remember the words that were said or what we prayed about, but we prayed together. I remember months after she told me how nervous she was to ask me. Nonetheless, in that moment she was courageous… She was courageous enough to ask me to pray.

I was raised Catholic and went to mass. I believed in God… But I didn’t really know God. I didn’t walk with God. When I went to college I rarely attended church. It wasn’t in my schedule. I didn’t make time for it.

That leads me to the next moment. I believe it was October of 2017, my first year out of college. I had graduated from Wartburg that May, and I was out in the real world.

With this next question Madison asked me, she was firm in her faith, she was strong, and she was firm. She was on her guard. She spoke these simple words:

“Will you go to church with me?”

It just so happens to be this place called Crosspoint Church.

I look at those two moments… and it brings me to this exact moment. Roughly two years later here I stand… being able to share my heart with you… God working in my life strongly enough to bring me up here on this stage.

If it wasn’t for Madison living out that verse, whether she knew it or not, she brought me to Jesus. Remember, I believed in God… but now I walk with God. I talk to Him daily. I allowed the Holy Spirit to enter into my life.

So here’s what you need to know, church:

For the sake of those around you, the ones you love, your spouse, your kids, your co-workers, your classmates, whoever… you need to live out this verse. Stay true to who you are, stay true to who God is calling you to be, stay true to Jesus, and show others the goodness of His glory.

Jesus wants to use you. I didn’t know Jesus that well two years ago… but God has worked in my life. He has me on the stage at church! God wants you to be on this stage too. He wants you to be the light in the darkness. He wants to call you closer to Him. He wants you to start a Bible study with some of your friends. He wants you to talk to your family and tell them about the undeniable love of Jesus Christ and everything that comes with it. God wants a relationship with you.

The examples I gave were two simple questions:

Can we pray together?

And will you come to church with me?

Do the simple things that get God in the door… He will do the rest.

So be on your guard. Stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. And do everything in love.
